Registration OpenAI Governance and Assurance for Safety Professionals
Managing AI Risk, Safety Assurance, and Human Oversight in AI-Enabled Operations
OVERVIEW
Professional context and course purpose
As artificial intelligence becomes embedded in safety, health, risk, compliance, and operational decision-making, organizations need more than general AI policies. They need practical governance systems that define accountability, control risk, validate AI-supported decisions, maintain competent human oversight, and provide evidence that AI-enabled operations remain safe and defensible.
This course provides safety and risk professionals with a practical framework for governing AI across its lifecycle—from use-case selection and risk classification through verification, validation, deployment, monitoring, audit, corrective action, and change management.
Participants learn how to evaluate AI-enabled systems as sociotechnical work systems, establish appropriate human decision authority, identify assurance evidence, manage vendor and source risks, define escalation and stop-use criteria, and integrate AI governance into existing safety-management and operational processes.
The course emphasizes risk proportionality, safety assurance, human oversight, traceability, uncertainty, worker protection, and continuous monitoring. AI is treated as a governed decision-support capability rather than an autonomous substitute for competent professional judgment.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
You will learn how to:
Classify AI use cases according to safety impact, uncertainty, autonomy, and operational consequence.
Establish governance roles, accountability, approval authority, escalation pathways, and human oversight requirements.
Translate AI risk into safety requirements, verification activities, validation evidence, and deployment criteria.
Evaluate data quality, model limitations, source reliability, drift, cybersecurity, privacy, and vendor-related risks.
Develop safety assurance evidence linking claims, requirements, testing, human review, monitoring, and residual-risk decisions.
Define monitoring thresholds, stop-use criteria, revalidation triggers, incident response, CAPA, and change-control requirements.
Audit AI-enabled operations for traceability, evidence sufficiency, control effectiveness, and governance performance.
Detect overreliance, automation bias, unsupported AI recommendations, weak evidence, and inappropriate transfer of decision authority.
Integrate AI governance with existing safety, risk, compliance, procurement, audit, and management-review processes.
Communicate AI risk, assurance status, limitations, and residual risk to operational leaders and executives.
